Work Code Categories are used to group work codes based on similar pay type calculations and located in Setup > Codes. For example, Extra Duty, Compensation Time, and On-Call categories, and within each category work codes are associated to a work code category; for instance work codes such as Extra Duty Reports, Extra Duty Events, Extra Duty Training are associated with the work code category of Extra Duty which is used to references a pay rule.
Simply put, rather than apply pay rule X to each work code, the work code category bundles the work codes to apply a single pay rule and streamlines schedule-to-pay in Dimensions.
Customers using Dimensions and On Call type work codes must associate a Work Code Category when selecting the On-Call check box in Setup > Codes > Work Codes... in order to generate a tag definition. Currently the User Interface does not enforce a work code category when selecting the On-Call check box; yet required.
