Work Codes

A work code defines a work status. Work codes are used to manage time, staff personnel, and solve payroll needs.

The term “work code” is used to describe a work status record throughout this application. This application allows you to rename certain application terms such as this one. To view a complete list of application terms you can rename, go to Setup > General > Terminology1.

The behavior of each work code is highly configurable and dynamic. For this reason, you may find that some work codes require approval, and others do not. Dynamic Issues and Static Issues contribute to a work code’s behavior when applied in this application. For instance, you may find that sometimes a work code is automatically approved, and sometimes that same work code requires approval. These are dynamic issues and configuration settings at the work code level that control how a work code behaves upon entry at a moment in time.

Dynamic and Static issues are used to prevent people from entering work codes in to this application when a work code fails your business rules (Dynamic), or a system rule (Static)2. For example, you may have a dynamic issue that stops employees from entering sick time an hour before their shift starts the day of, or you may stop a person from submitting vacation time on a day that has already maxed out the number of people allowed on vacation.
