Work Code: Field Codes

The table below does not account for Terminology changes that affect field names.
Field Name Field Description
*Work Code Specifies which Work Code will be placed on the awardee’s calendar and which work code will be used by the Rules to determine win qualifications. *Required.
*For these shifts Specifies which shift or shifts will be included for Auction Items. * Required.

Note:

Select one shift if separate auctions are desired. This means the user will only see one auction and eligible auction items within, or select multiple shifts to create one auction encompassing several shifts. This means the user will see multiple shifts in the auction but only the eligible dates will have the Bid button enabled. Best practice, separate the auctions to prevent user confusion and a cluttered auction with many non-applicable auction items visible to the bidder.

Staffing Detail The Staffing Detail assigned when an auction item is awarded. If blank, the Staffing Detail specified by the Roster Record if one exists will be used.
From Date The first inclusive date used to generate auction items.
Through Date The last inclusive date used to generate auction items.
Target What Days in Cycle Specifies which days in each Shift cycle, work codes should be applied. Choices are:
  • Shift Days Only - work codes will apply to shift ‘scheduled’ pattern days only that occur on or within the From and Through dates supplied.
  • Non-Shift Days Only - work codes will apply to non-shift pattern days that occur on or within the From and Through dates supplied.
  • Any or All Days in Cycle - work codes should be applied to each and every day in each shift cycle that occur on or within the From and Through dates supplied.

The award action will place Work Codes on the awardees personal calendar. (The end result looks similar to work codes applied via the Add... feature on the roster or calendars.

APPLICATION: There are two main uses for work code award type auctions:
  • Awarding non-working codes, such as vacation bidding.
  • Awarding working codes, such as overtime or sign up bidding

BEHAVIOR: Using the Shift setting, the award process determines all the applicable days (e.g., scheduled shift working days) that occur on and between the From and Through dates. For each applicable day, a single Work Code is placed on the awardee’s personal calendar. The specified staffing detail, if provided, is attached to the work code. The Work Code specific From and Through times are determined using the specified Shift’s schedule. Be sure the Work Code Type is properly configured using the Target what days setting. For example, suppose that you are configuring a Vacation auction, this means you will need to target Shift Days only, so vacation work codes are placed on scheduled days.

  • Shift Days Only - work codes will apply to shift ‘scheduled’ pattern days only that occur on or within the From and Through dates supplied.
  • Non-Shift Days Only - work codes will apply to non-shift pattern days that occur on or within the From and Through dates supplied.

The award action creates a brand new assignment (based on the specified properties) for the awardee. The assignment appears in the awardees Assignment tab. Moreover, the award process looks for any other assignments that match the newly created (e.g., same Position, same Shift, etc.). If a match is found, the award process will resolve the conflict as specified in the Award Type properties.

APPLICATION: This award is used to support position bidding auctions.

BEHAVIOR: The assignment award process performs the general functions:
  • Creates a new assignment for the awardee.
  • The award action creates a brand new assignment (based on the specified properties) for the awardee.
  • The assignment appears in the awardees Assignment tab, just like any other assignment would.
  • Resolves the awardee’s existing assignments, if they are concurrent.
  • The award process determines any Concurrent Awardee Assignments.
  • Conflicting assignments are resolved by the defined Conflict Resolution method defined in the awards Awardee’s Concurrent Assignments property.
  • Resolves holder’s assignments, if they conflict.
  • The award process determines any Conflicting Awardee Assignments.

CONCURRENT AWARDEE ASSIGNMENTS: An awardee’s existing assignment is considered concurrent when the user’s assignment’s FROM and THROUGH dates overlap the new award assignment’s FROM and THROUGH dates. That is, an existing assignment is concurrent if it is (or will be active) active at the same time as the newly awarded assignment. It is quite possible for an awardee to have several concurrent assignments.

CONFLICTING HOLDER ASSIGNMENTS: The Holder is the staff member that currently has an assignment that matches the assignment that is to be awarded to the awardee. A conflicting Holder Assignment must overlap dates with the award assignments as in the Conflicting Awardee Assignments), and must also match the specific positional (position, unit, station, region, and agency) and shift-wise (shift, and or shift mask) attributes of the award assignment. The purpose is to unassign the previous holder’s assignment when you assign the awardee, to prevent duplicate assignments.

Matching OPTIONS:

The matching options allow you to specify some additional use for determining matching assignments. A Matching assignment will be considered a conflicting assignment.

Ignore Rotations when awarding non-rotations:

  • Only applies when the award assignment is a single (non-rotation) position assignment.
  • Don’t look inside Templates for matching assignments.
  • Look inside Templates and match if the Template has even one assignment that matches the award Assignment’s.

Always include unassigned too

Ignore Shift Mask

CONFLICT RESOLUTION:

Conflicting assignments are resolved in three ways:

  1. Adjust Dates (EXPIRE) - the existing assignment’s FROM and THROUGH dates are changed so that the active period will not overlap the award assignments active period. If possible the assignment will adjust the dates so that the existing assignment’s dates will dovetail with the award assignments dates. That is, they will occur back to back; activity of one will end the day before the next begins.
  2. Leave... (IGNORE) - Don’t resolve the conflict. Do not touch or change the applicable conflicting assignments.
  3. Permanently Remove (DELETE)- Permanently remove the conflicting assignments.
